This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever sat in the back of the classroom during a read aloud? Were you able to fully enjoy the picture book? Did you recognize any letters on the page? Not likely, right?! Unless it was a really BIG book! Well, most of my preschoolers go through this during a read aloud.
Most of my students are English Language Learners (ELL's).
If you peek into my classroom, it's easy to spot my visual learners. They are sitting in the reading area leafing through a book, or playing with a puzzle or shapes and letters. They have keen powers of observation. That's because visual learners rely primarily on their sense of sight to take in information, understand it, and remember it. If they don't "see" it, they're not able to fully comprehend it. Since the school is located in an urban area, funding is very limited, especially when it comes to technology.
My Project
With the help of an ELMO (document camera), my preschoolers will be able to make every book a really "big book". The images will be very interesting and the accompanying text will encourage reading. This is a great way to support my visual learners and provide them with the 21st Century technology they need to learn to read.
Since my ELL's are visual learners, they should be exposed to the latest classroom technology.
With the help of ELMO, I can appropriately support their learning styles and enhance their overall literacy experiences in the classroom.
