Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning is our middle name in room 106! My first grade bilingual students are clever, enthusiastic, and filled with curiosity. Their motivation and spunky characters make every moment a learning experience. Each student brings something different to our class making our days full of laughter, movement, and inspiration. The students in my classroom love learning to read and write in English, and although at times it make be difficult they never give up. In room 106 we all have a growth mindset and are always ready to learn new things!
My Project
With your help, my ELL students will be able to listen AND follow along to books on CD during our reading centers. Included in this project are four headphones and a CD player. This allows children to hear their favorite books, as they learn new reading skills by listening. With this new tool they will quickly learn to read and enjoy these books again and again! By donating to our project, you will help emphasize reading as a source of pleasure rather than a skill, and make children eager to learn how to read. My students enjoy listening to stories, which comes with many benefits including the development of new vocabulary words and an understanding of language. Hearing a book read aloud helps students to see how the words on the page can come alive. It helps students to focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading.
