My Project
Do you remember the first book you read, that made you an avid reader? First impressions are very important. I want to create a great first impression of books, for my students, so they are able to appreciate and love quality books.
The collections of books I am requesting are more than just books.
They are classroom favorites that our kids love to listen to over and over. The Elephant and Piggie books are amazing for our kids to fall in love with reading. Not only do these stories promote imagination use but they are wonderful for learning how to be compassionate towards others.
My goal for my students is to help them build their at home libraries because studies have shown having books in the home is proven to positively benefit children in a myriad of ways. A two-decade long study found that the mere presence of a home library increases children's academic success, vocabulary development, attention and job attainment.
The books I have requested will bring 20 Elephant and Piggie books into the hands of our kids and their families.
George RR Martin wrote, "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.” I want my students to live a million lives and I want them to start living here, in pre-K.
