Elementary School Recess Running Club to Keep Our Students Moving

Help me give my students prizes for participating in our Running Club every recess.

My Project

This is the second year we offer our students our recess running club to encourage development of fitness habits and optimal level of fitness. To motivate them we offer students two prizes for every 5 miles they complete. We track their progress with a program that was purchased by our PTO and prizes for the over 6,500 miles in 12 weeks, have been purchased from my personal funds and some have been purchased by our school. We celebrate our top runners every month during our assembly with certificates and a trophy they get to keep on their desk for a month. Last year the total number of miles was a little over 7,200 miles from October to June and this year we have over 6,500 miles in the first 12 weeks. We have over 87% of our students participating this year compared with a little over 50% last year.

The excitement for participating this year is partly due to the trophy celebrations and the variety of little prizes we have been able to offer.
