We are a public elementary school in New York City with a large population that is culturally diverse and of low socioeconomic status.
Five years ago we started a band program for grades 3-5 that has flourished, but our instruments are limited and funds to buy band supplies are scarce.
Often when I look for band arrangement of songs, I have to pass them up due to a lack of instruments on the lower-end of the pitch spectrum. For this reason, French horns and saxophones would help to make our band complete. Also, French horn was my instrument as a child and my husband is a professional saxophonist, so my resources to teach these two instruments are vast.
Having the opportunity to become a musician is a gift that these children cherish. They stand a little taller and smile a little brighter when they join band, as it increases their self-esteem, discipline and enthusiasm for school. Your influence will empower students with the gift of music for years to come. Please consider making a donation to this endeavor today!
