Osnaburg Local School District is a small, rural district located in East Canton, Ohio. The district houses preschool through twelfth grade all in one building, with the average graduating class having only 65 students.
It is the belief of our school district that every single student deserves to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance while they are at school.
As a result, we have created an "All-In" group to help promote a sense of inclusion within our district. The All-In group is made up of high school students who identify themselves as "a team of unified students trying to better our school community by promoting equity and equality for all students." Basically, they try to make school a positive experience for each and every student.
Each year, the All-In group focuses on a project of their choosing. Last year, they put their time and energy into creating a Middle School Lunch Club that focused on helping students feel less isolated at lunch. This year, the All-In Group would like to lead a similar project that is focused on elementary students. It is for this reason that this DonorsChoose page has been created.
My Project
The Osnaburg Local All-In Group is asking for monetary donations in order to purchase a "Buddy Bench" for the elementary playground. When a child is sitting on a Buddy Bench , it is a signal to other kids to ask him or her to play. There are several reasons that a child may be sitting alone on the Buddy Bench- perhaps they are new to the district, their friends are absent from school that day, or maybe the child would like to play with new kids or even try a new game.
For kids with no one to play with, there may be no lonelier place than the school playground.
Moreover, for kids who have an established friends group, they may not think to ask other kids to join them. That's why the Buddy Bench can be so influential- it helps bring the two groups of kids together! If this project is funded, the Osnaburg Local staff and students will work together to provide awareness about the Buddy Bench and how it will be used to help eliminate loneliness on the school playground.
