My Students
My students are dependent upon me for Visual Arts instruction. After participating in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art's Professional Development Series "Elementary Arts and Social Studies Integration, I am excited for my students to execute these projects.
We are an urban school located in Rego Park, Queens.
My students' multicultural backgrounds enrich our classroom community, many are English Language Learners. My students love expressing themselves creatively through multiple art mediums. By participating in creative exercises, each child is able to experience success, learn rigorous curriculum and develop self-confidence.
My Project
After creating unit plans and lessons integrating the Museum of Modern Art's resources and NYS Core Social Studies curriculum, I am looking forward to presenting this lesson to students and having them create the works of art that are embedded within the instruction. I am confident that this approach to teaching Social Studies will spark a passion for history within each of them that they will carry with them throughout their educational careers and ultimately, life.
History and Social Studies will come alive to my students.
They will become active learners, experiencing the important events of the past, pin a way that they never have before. Textbooks are often written at a level many students can not comprehend. Through the use of primary sources and period art pieces, students will experience more academic success. Ultimately, my goal is for them to develop the same passion for the Arts and Social Studies that I have.
