Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are starving for knowledge. I teach in a Title I school, where the funds are almost none. This year our neighborhood got hit by Harvey. Some lost a few things, some much more than that but what we did not lose was the hope, energy and desire to move forward.
Even with these challenges, my students come every day and are ready to learn.
They feel so proud when they get a good grade or a compliment. I am sure they will take advantage of any opportunity that comes their way.
My Project
One thing that I want to do for for my students is to prepare them for the future. As things move to the virtual area, it is important that they know how to prepare.
Every day, I am aware of the amazing things children create.
The trick is to document them. With a scanner we can help with the documentation. At the start of the year, we can make a folder for each child in order to keep things organized. The computer dates each file for us, which is very handy. We can print out what we need for parent conferences.
But the scanner will be use in TONS of other different ways. Every time someone creates something amazing, we can scan and copy for all the class to see. We can document our progress and see how much we grow. We can create a school year book!
Most importantly we will be creating digital porfolios. As our schools move into the digital area, classrooms become virtual rooms, books are online, and notebooks are now Chromebooks. We need to make sure our students are ready for it.
