This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine not being able to go to the school library to check out books or do research on a computer? This has been my students reality since September due to budget restraints.
I work as a second grade teacher at an inner city school in California.
Most of my students are English Language learners, and are classified as limited English proficient. Many of them have very little English language support at-home and opportunity to practice their skills outside of the classroom. They have difficulties with the language and making connections with the grade level curriculum. They need an aide that will provide them with visuals, video, engagement, and opportunities to talk and develop their English and knowledge of content they have learned.
My Project
I am requesting a tablet with case and screen protector that will enable my students to practice their reading and vocabulary skills in the reading center and small learning groups. They will also be able to use the tablet to access math and reading games that will enable them to practice their skills. A tablet will provide many great opportunities for students with different learning modalities.
One tablet is not enough for my class but it's one step closer to having a personal library at their finger tips with a vast array of applications, learning games, and reading material.
It will be a great electronic aide in my classroom.
