Electrifying Experiments

My students need electricity kits to perform experiments related to our states curriculum.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Oliver's classroom raised $519

This project is fully funded

My Students

Our current electricity kits just won't get the job done! We need more current kits including electrical switches. Our science unit is the most hands on of the four science units and we will not be able to complete the experiments with our current materials.

Our school is located in an urban district of North Carolina and contains about 630 students.

Our grade level has almost 100 students and will be able to share the kits between all of the students. We are a good mix of demographics with about 40% white, 30% African American, and 30% Hispanic. We are striving to become implement more technology and provide more of our students an opportunity that they would not have outside of the classroom.

My Project

Most of all students will create a love for electricity that will be able to transfer to outside of the classroom! Students will use the kits to observe and investigate the pull of magnets on all materials made of iron and the pushes or pulls on other magnets. They will design and test an electric circuit as a closed pathway including an energy source, energy conductor, and an energy receiver. Explain how magnetism is related to electricity. All students will describe and explain the parts of a light bulb. They will describe and identify materials that are conductors and non-conductors of electricity. Throughout all of the unit they will observe and investigate that parallel and series circuits have different characteristics. Our students will learn a love electricity that will connect to the real world around them.

This is the most exciting and hands on unit that we will conduct this year in science.

Many of our other units do not allow us hands on activities and time to relate to the content. We need these kits to explore difficult concepts such as series and parallel circuits. Just reading about conductors and insulators in the science text book is not enough. They need to place items along the electrical circuit to connect the vocabulary to the content. Please help us create electrifying experiments
