Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a science teacher, and only teach science to 250 eager students from grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. I enjoy creating a classroom which is hands-on and engaging for all of my students. My school is located in an urban area inner-city school, of which more than seventy per cent of my students are African-American. Additionally, some of my students live in federally funded housing, which is surrounding the immediate area of the school. One thing that all of my students share is a strong love for science, and engaging in activities that are hands-on is one of their favorite things to do.

My goal is to create a classroom to build upon my students' love for science, by making it a more inquiry and discovery based classroom.

Since science is a subject that requires more hands-on manipulatives and experimentation, it is important to allow students to learn through interaction with their environment and learning new things.

As a teacher, education is all about sharing experiences and creating opportunities. By supporting this page, that is exactly what you are doing. Thank you for all your support, it is highly appreciated!

My Project

In my classroom, my goal is to provide students with enriching experiences in the sciences. In order to make my classroom an engaging place for all, I use hands-on manipulatives so students will be able to interact with what they are learning about in a more personal way.

Students will be using electric testers to learn more about how electricity flows through a circuit in preparation for the fourth grade science exam.

Since this is a major component of the practical portion of the examination, it is important for students to have everything they need to be prepared and to be successful on their exams. Knowledge of electric circuits is relevant to real-world applications, specifically learning how things work around the house.

My students are the most interesting and most fascinating people in the world to me. Their ability to learn through manipulatives as well as interaction with their environment is something truly fascinating. Each and every day that I am their teacher, I learn something new from them. I know that with your continued support, we can continue to make the world a better place for our children, the only people that matter. Thank you!
