Electrify Education and Magnify Minds

My students need equipment and supplies to learn and to do hands-on activities and projects involving electromagnetism. Some examples of activities they'll be exploring: simple motors, cup speakers, eddy currents, LED modulators.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Wong's classroom raised $999

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at our school come from a number of diverse backgrounds. The majority of the students (around 78%) are of Hispanic origin. 20% of our student population have special needs. There's a high number of students at our school who are ELL learners and speak Spanish as a first language.

Nevertheless, our students are driven and love to learn.

They are naturally curious and have a desire to expand their minds and to grow in their education. Even if many come from disadvantaged households, they are driven to create opportunities for themselves that they will benefit from in the future.

My Project

With the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) changing the way we teach and learn science, students will be asked more than ever to "learn by doing." In this project, I am asking for materials that will allow my students to understand electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism through doing inquiry, creating currents, making simple motors and cup speakers, etc. Through our unit on electromagnetism, I want my students to understand basic concepts of electricity, magnetism, and how they apply to their daily lives.

I want my students to understand how electricity and magnetism work together to form some of the most practical and basic devices that we use today.

Many appliances that we use today and run by the basic concepts of electromagnetism, from hair dryers, fans, speakers etc. My hope is that my students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of how basic scientific discoveries contribute to and impact their lives today.
