My Students

We are a public high school in urban/suburban Wilmington DE.

These students are highly motivated and highly skilled in using 21st century rapid prototyping equipment such as CNC routers, laser cutter, and 3d printers.

We want to develop real solutions to real peoples' real problems.

We mix the digital and physical worlds to create solutions that are unique and effective.

Empathy is where it all begins. We connect with our users and cater to their needs throughout the entire process.

Covid has turned our subject area upside and taken a very hands on course and forced it into a remote environment. This grant will help create at home hands on activities that will deepen understanding of content.

My Project

During the 1st and 2nd MP students have learned through a full remote environment. In that environment, students have engaged with programming and electronic wiring using free online programs such a TinkerCAD and Makecode.org. These websites are nice because they are free, interactive, and allow students to simulate their circuits online to see if they work or not.

The addition to these resources, by means of this Donors Choose project, your donation will give every student in my class a chance to take that online learning, make it hands on, and make it authentic.

Their ideas will no longer be confined to the computer screen but rather unleashed into the real world.

This project will increase my students' levels of excitement, engagement, and enjoyment as they learn this new content. Having their own circuit playground express will give them the opportunity to apply these coding and wiring concepts to solve real problems. Some examples of this include alarm systems, light/sound sensing devices, or interactive games.

These resources will give students a greater understanding of how to program and how circuits and sensors work all while taking a 100% remote environment and creating an at-home learning opportunity.
