Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We would like to make our traditional orchestra and amp it up a bit with the start of an electric strings ensemble. Students want to start improvising and learning to do live shows like violinist Lindsey Stirling. The students will be motivated to practice for the chance to solo for an audience!

James Island Charter High School Orchestra members are a great group of students.

They aren't just interested and good at music, they are high academic achievers, skilled athletes, officers and members of various school clubs, and volunteer regularly. We are a terrific school with lower to solid middle class families. There aren't frills in these families' budgets and our school mission is to provide students with opportunities to excel academically. This project definitely fits the bill, don't you think!?!

My Project

Our plan is to perform a unit on alternative styles music (Fiddle, Jazz, Pop and Hip-Hop music) at the area middle and elementary schools...maybe even throughout the district. These genres of music will be greatly enhanced by the use of electric, amplified instruments. They will allow our soloists to stand out from the rest of the orchestra, both in volume and timbre. Adding an electric instrument to the performance will add the wow factor to the audience and keep attracting students to our program.

I think this project is just the thing this group of students need in order to stay inspired and go the distance in their instruction!

Students will be motivated to practice the different styles of music for performances because they will all want the chance to play the electric violin and possibly play solos on it. I look forward to enriching their education with multiple contemporary styles of music and give them new avenues to perform. Thank you for considering to support JICHS students!
