This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our current projector screen pulls up on its own! it has to be tied down to a chair so that it stays down. After our lesson is done, we then let it go up. Having to tie it down and then let it go takes away several instructional minutes each day.
My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance.
Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. My students' parents want the best education possible for them but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have books, puzzles or other educational toys at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantaged, but not enough to provide every classroom with all the "extras" that they need. In fact due to all the budget cuts, we are running very low on essential supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, and even multipurpose paper. Please help us get a working projector screen.
My Project
Three tools that I use on a daily basis to help my students learn are the document reader, projector and projector screen. Unfortunately, our projector screen does not want to cooperate with us anymore. It has a mind of it's own. I pull it down and it pulls up. I pull it back down again and it pulls back up. I have to take time every day to tie it down. These are precious instructional minutes that are wasted. I hope to use the electric projector screen to project upon it our math lesson, study notes, educational videos, conduct mini writing lessons, project their sight words and have the students share their work with the rest of the class. The screen will also be used to project upon it stories from StoryLine.org. Celebrity readers read classic children books such as Harry the Dirty Dog. My students' love of books is increased as they truly enjoy professional actors read their favorite stories. A working screen is invaluable for us to continue to do our work.
Having an electric screen will allow my students to see what I am projecting more easily.
Also, less instructional minutes will be wasted by me having to tie down our broken screen. Please help us continue our academic success by giving us the tools that we need to learn. My students also need a stool to sit on when they are using the multi-media cart to share their work. The cart is bigger than my five year old students so having a stool to sit on will help my students better reach the cart.
