Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

According to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education Coalition, "Our nation’s future economic prosperity is closely linked with student success in the STEM fields.". In our math classroom, we try to incorporate cross curricular activities to promote the STEM fields.

My students include English Learners, students with disabilities, gifted and highly gifted students, and at-risk students.

Our school is considered high-poverty, in which over two-thirds of our students qualify for a free or reduced price lunch. My students need more exposure to STEM education.

My Project

My students will be creating an "Electric Math" activity. Students will be using wires, bulbs, batteries in battery holders, and fasteners to create a circuit board. These circuit boards will also include sets of questions and answers for the assigned math concept. Students will use "leads" to test their creations by using a battery operated light bulb. Activities will be exchanged between students to serve as concept review.

This project is just one way that I am able to encourage students to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

It is not to early for my middle school students to start thinking about their careers.
