Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Oh, the place you'll go! There is fun to be done!" I use this Dr. Seuss quote as a mantra to my teaching - that learning should take you places and also be fun. And what's more fun than learning by doing? Second graders LOVE hands-on activities!

I have a room full of smiles and smart thinkers.

I create a warm, safe, and inviting environment for my students. This is important because most of them come from homes that are not so warm, safe, or inviting. The surrounding neighborhood is dangerous and unpredictable. So when my 22 "ducklings" walk through the school gates, I want them to feel excited to learn and develop a sense of academic ownership. These are not only skills for second grade, but rather for life.

My Project

These resources will enable my students to develop their English skills in a hands-on way. The pocket charts are so versatile and can be used for pictures, sentence frames, letters, poems, centers--you name it! Students LOVE learning through creating. By using these pocket charts, they can create their own activities, which gives them a stronger sense of independence and confidence. The chart stand allows us to move the pocket charts all around the classroom for various centers--a mobile learning tool! We will also be able to use it across all curriculum, for math, science, social studies, ELD, etc.

The donations to my project will make a huge impact in my classroom.

Not only will it provide the students with materials to excel their learning, but it will also teach them a lesson about humanity. They would be astounded to know that complete strangers care about their education and are willing to do donate to their cause. What a beautiful lesson to learn.
