My Project
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush; it is raining cats and dogs; a dime a dozen. Some of my students struggle to comprehend the meaning of these poetic phrases. Others are flabbergasted at vocabulary such as forlorn or clandestine. The English language is considered one of the Top 5 most challenging languages to learn. It is rich in vocabulary, idioms, phrases, proverbs and grammar rules. At times even I as a high school ELA teacher need to review certain topics when teaching my students.
I want to help my students improve their understanding of the English language by developing organized lessons, exercises and activities through intentional practices.
Assist me in retrieving these resources and tools that I wish to provide my students and use them in the classroom. I wish to teach my students new, essential SAT based vocabulary weekly and practice using them in the class with quick daily exercises. This will help many prepare for standardized tests such the SATs, ACTs, and our state test, the Regents. For my English Language Learning students, I want to provide them with idiom and ESL activity books that can be used to improve their learning of the English language. For all my students I plan on practicing grammar as well to improve their writing skills. All of these various strands of ELA will benefit my students' abilities in reading and writing.
