Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a populated valley in California. They are surrounded by many cultures and languages. They are also in a Title 1 school. Specifically, my students are also in a special day program where they need more support to in their learning. Each of my students have different stories, different abilities, different dreams, but they are all capable of coming together, helping each other out, and becoming one team that aims to grow.
My students face hurdles everyday but each day I see them trying their absolute best.
Although my students are not in an advantaged community, it doesn't stop them from wanting to learn and grow. And so they do! They take what they can and make the most out of it. They keep striving for excellence everyday.
My Project
The items included in this project are going to be used during our rotations time. One of our foci this year is math facts fluency and we practice as a whole group and small group. The traditional flash cards are available to the students as well but it's not "attractive" as the math machines from Lakeshore. This item will encourage students to practice their math fluency independently whether as part of a free choice rotation or as an early finisher activity.
The items for language arts are from different grade levels so that my students can practice and gain skills needed using material that is more accessible to them at their performance level.
There have been times where material has been presented to my students and their filters go up because it's challenging work and it looks like "work." These activities are high interest activities where my students will be able to learn and have fun all at the same time.
