My Project

A few of my students come from low income, Spanish speaking families. When they arrive to school, for the first time, they are usually very quiet and timid. They do not know much English, if any. They are suddenly placed in a strange environment, where no one speaks their language. So communicating their feelings, asking questions and following instructions is very difficult. Their only understanding of the routines is to follow the body language of those around them.

Spanish speaking students are at a disadvantage and teachers need the proper teaching materials to transition these students into learning the English language.

Otherwise, they will become frustrated, lost and lag behind all the other students. Unfortunately, most of the parents know very little English also.

These materials will allow me to interact and teach these students on a level that is more familiar to them. The interactive materials will be especially useful since it can speak Spanish properly and give them a more acurate pronuciation of the Spanish language. Once these students become more comfortable with the enviroment, routine and Spanish translation into English, They may become more receptive to other learning areas like science and math.
