This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a very diverse group of second grade students eager to make a difference in the world! They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are on the road to becoming strong, independent people that will inspire others and change the world.

My second graders are enthusiastic hard workers in a California Distinguished STEM Magnet School.

Our school is located in a low-income area. It is 100% Title I and all students qualify for free lunch.

However, because of limited resources, not all classrooms are equipped with enough supplies to meet the needs of the students.

My Project

The primary journals and water color paper will make a difference in my students' learning because I will be able to use art to teach writing. Drawing plays an important role, providing a supportive scaffolding in order to construct a story.

In second grade children draw more realistically and therefore create more action scenes; the more advanced their drawings become, the more advanced their writing becomes.

Students write best when they write with detail. Having the primary composition journals and the water color paper will give my students the chance to express their personal feelings and will enhance their creative writing and critical thinking abilities.

It is very important for students to see the relationship between art and creative writing and to use both processes to communicate the very best of their creative ideas.
