EJHS Garden Guardians - Growing Minds and Veggies

My Students

In the spring of 2018, a group of 8th grade students at our school decided to form a garden club in hopes of providing a sustainable, healthy food option for members of our community in need. The "Garden Guardians" were able to construct a concrete, raised bed garden that produced lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, cucumber, and more that was later donated to local food pantry 279.

With help from the community, the Garden Guardians would like to increase our garden space, educational opportunities, and philanthropic impact on our community.

We would like to add another garden made from recycled tires, incorporate more scientific testing and cooking into our club activities, and build a shed.

The shed will allow us to store our tools and other equipment. It will also help to collect rainwater for our gardens. The students are excited about learning trade skills during construction.

My Project

As we continue to expand our garden system, we need a place to store our tools and other supplies. We want to continue to provide food for those in need in our community. We also want to do some experiments and add a cooking component to our club.

We don't currently have a space at the school to call our own, and this shed would be a great place for us to keep the things we need to achieve our goals.

We have a four-year plan that includes adding a new gardening space each year. We need a large shed like this to house items like tomato cages, shovels, a rototiller and other supplies.
