Help me give my students an EIE kit in order for students to create their own bubble wands exploring the engineering design process and building on their thinking and reasoning skills.
I am a New York City public school educator. I am a part of District 75 which is a cohort of many schools across our city and has the highest amount of special needs students. Our district is specifically designed to educate students with disabilities. My students have Autism and multiple disabilities. They are also economically disadvantaged. Our district works a 12-month program, so it is essential to have appropriate educational materials and curriculum to support them and meet their individualized learning needs.
I teach students with disabilities and 100% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch.
Students often come to us with many struggles from home. I want their education to be fun and exciting. In my classroom, we focus on Science but provide a STEM education.
I have given so much money towards my classroom but it is never enough. For children with disabilities, it is essential to have supplies for hands-on project-based learning. Not all of my students will attend college but inspiring them to find a love of learning in order to find a career when they leave us is essential. I can only do that with your help!
My Project
Students learn from hands-on experiences. There is no better way to teach our students about STEM fields to build an interest than by letting them learn and grow by doing. My students have many multiple disabilities. EIE (Engineering is Elementary) is an inquiry-based STEM curriculum that engages students in engineering through real-world scenarios that they can relate to as children. Bubble Bonanza is a STEM unit that allows students to explore how bubbles behave and investigate the properties of different materials as they engineer all kinds of bubble wands.
There is no better way for students to learn and engage in the engineering design process than through play with bubbles!
The kit, not only provides us with the curriculum guide, but it also includes all of the materials needed to engage students in designing and building the perfect bubble wand! Despite my students' disabilities, they will all get to experience the entire engineering design process from start to finish. We can't wait to begin now we just need your help!!!
