This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are extremely interested in exploring. This is there first experience with STEM so I'm considered the "cool Science lady". My kids are energetic and funny when making real world connection. I enjoy seeing their eyes light up when we are in the science lab. My goal is to foster their love for exploring.
My Project
Egypt Elementary is a place where we enjoy exposing our students to places they may not have the opportunity to explore. This quarter our super scientist will use mathematics and computational thinking to collect data on the size of the planets and the distance between the planets and the sun in order to infer that planets closer to the sun are either very small, orbit very quickly, or a combination of both when learning about the inner planets. Our goal is to create a travel brochure while researching the planets. Imagine if we could visit Saturn or Uranus, what would we need in order to survive? How far is Saturn or Uranus from the Sun?
I'm excited to provide my students the opportunity to reach the learning goals with the items selected.
