Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cooperative learning centers are the first building blocks to creating a bully free zone. Through these centers the students get to practice important social skills that they can use a lifetime.
I am privileged to teach 36 pre-Kindergarten students.
They are eager and excited to learn. My students attend a large public school and come from low income households. Most of my students are learning English as a second language and are attending school for the first time. They don't have many opportunities to participate in academically enriching activities outside of my classroom.
My Project
I am requesting books on the topic of bullying to help the students hear age appropriate stories about bullying. The books will serve as great tool to help educate my Pre-K students about how to treat each other. In addition, we need resources for our learning center where the students will get to practice what they learn about bullying and practice cooperative learning. The alphabet supplies and markers will be used in a center to help the students with letter recognition and the pointers and magnifying glasses will help them explore the room. The mats will be used in outdoor centers. Since there are only 6 students allowed in a center at a time, they must learn to take turns and work together.
They say that when you know better you do better.
I want to teach my students that bullying is wrong. I feel this is especially important for my Pre-Kindergarteners because they are attending school for the first time. I want to build a strong foundation of character education. The books will help them understand the concept of bullying and the supplies will be used in cooperative learning centers where they can practice being bully-free.
