Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges which can make teaching both challenging and difficult without the appropriate resources, furniture, and materials. My classroom will consist of students with Autism who struggle in the areas of: socialization, daily living skills, behavioral issues, as well as cognitive delays.
My students are a special group of learners who deserve to have specific supplies, activities, and furniture tailored to their individual learning styles.
This project will give my students a safe and motivating place to learn and will ensure the opportunity for them to be successful.
My Project
It has been communicated that funding for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year is slim to none. I was notified that I will be teaching at a different level and age group in a new classroom which is currently lacking the appropriate furniture, and resources necessary for my students to be successful. The existing furniture is old and beat up and needs to be replaced. The materials and resources from my present classroom are to stay with that classroom for next year.
My students will benefit from having comfortable color coded tables and chairs which will help them to learn their daily work rotations.
Students will also benefit greatly from the use of privacy dividers as many children with Autism have difficulties staying focused and on task. The circle time rug will provide a nice visual touch and will serve as a comfortable place for student learning.
