My Students

My students are nine and ten year old's that come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Since my students attend a Title I elementary school, a high percentage of my students come from low-income families. Despite the lack of resources some of my students have at home, they all come to school everyday with a growth mindset and do their best to meet challenging state academic standards.

My students work hard to spread positivity and show kindness to everyone no matter their background.

Coming from such a diverse classroom has taught my students to be accepting of others despite their differences. My students work hard to meet their goals and achieve great things both in and out of the classroom. They are amazing kids, and they are going to accomplish amazing things in their lives.

COVID-19 has had major impacts on my students social, emotional, and educational development over the past few years. Despite all of this my students work hard every day whether they are learning at school with masks on, or at home from their computers. My students are extremely resilient despite all of the hardships and loss they have had to face due to COVID-19.

My Project

The intent of my project is to help my students learn as effectively as possible whether they are at home or in school. I want to provide my students with flexible seating options so they can learn more comfortably, and so they can spread out more in the classroom. Giving my students flexible seating will allow my students to learn as comfortably at school as they do at home. It will also allow me to remove some desks from my classroom giving my students more space to spread out, thus helping to slow the spread of COVID-19 through my classroom. This will be beneficial for my students because it will help us stay healthier making it more likely we can stay in the classroom for in person learning. Staying healthy and continuing to learn in the classroom will have positive impacts on my students socially, emotionally, and academically.

Despite all of our efforts to stay safe and slow the spread of COVID-19, there is a high likelihood we will have to return to online learning at some point this school year.

Due to this, I want to ensure that all of my students have access to books they can read at home and in the classroom. Increasing the amount of books I have in my classroom will allow all of my students to have a book that they read at school, and can take home in case we have to shift to online learning again. I also want to keep all of my students connected through a class novel study. This will provide students consistency through these trying times as we have to shift from online to in person learning.
