In a day and age where technology is everywhere, I'm asking that you kindly help my students access it in the palm of their hands. By providing a classroom tablet for my students, we'll be able to integrate and incorporate technology like never before.
My students are incredible!
They have such a superb sense of spirit. In my public school classroom, 19 out of my 24 students currently qualify for free-and-reduced lunch. I have seven special education students as well in my room, along with three ELL learners. Despite these challenges, we have a blast learning! The majority of my kids come from homes where the only technology they come across is their television and/or a video game system. I figured this project could give me a chance to help open their minds to the world outside of the city they live in and the limited technology they currently have/use.
My Project
Having the ability to use a tablet in my classroom will impact my students in a variety of ways. First, the apps. My students will be able to get help with their math facts, algebra, or even explore pond life! There are a variety of educational apps that help make learning fun for kids. Tablets also provide interactivity. With the use of a tablet, my students can take a more active role in their learning and I can gradually release their learning from my role as their teacher to their role as the student. The ease to move around the room and bring the kids to me with the use of a tablet is yet another benefit. No longer will I have to strictly work just in the front of the room where the white board is to show my students how to learn a particular concept. The last big benefit I see is the fun factor. My students learn better when they are having fun. I think that is true for all of us. When we are enjoying what we are doing, we get more out of it. A tablet will do this.
Bringing a tablet into my room will make a difference not only in my students education and learning for this school year, but for several years.
It will show my students that people care about them outside of our small elementary school and care about their learning. They will learn that people want to provide them with an opportunity to enhance their learning and then hopefully, one day, turn around and do the same for another classroom.
