Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are currently on the last stretch of the school year. The only thing different this year is that we are doing it in what we call distance learning. I meet with my students virtually and they submit assigned work through different apps and platforms.
I won't lie.
The very first week, I had a headache every single day. Getting all the families connected in so many different platforms and apps. I have to make weekly and daily lesson plans. I have to record videos of me teaching, which makes me feel self-conscious. But that's where we are and that's what I have to do. It's actually cool that I was able to do a website, even if you can tell it's made by a beginner.
But as we know, not everyone has technology. Not all families have an internet connection nor laptop or ipad/tablet nor smart phone. So, I still need to find a way to reach those families. I need your help.
My Project
TK has always been frowned upon by incoming families. Most parents feel that their child will be a year behind. It's not easy being a TK teacher. Not only do I get push backs by parents in the beginning of the school year because of personal biases, but TK teachers do not have any textbooks, workbooks or whatsoever. But mind you, we have to grade the students and compared to the rest of all report cards, we have the longest report card to fill out.
My project this time is to get an Individual Teacher License from Education.com.
Not only will this license help me during this COVID-19 physical school closures, but this will help me throughout the school year. I have always used education.com, but once I used up all my free 10 worksheet limit per month, I have to wait for another month. Having to get my teacher license from them means that I can download as many worksheets as I need anytime and anywhere. If I need to teach a particular lesson, for example Life Cycle of a Butterfly, I can easily access worksheets and games from the website. I can assign it to the families or I can download it and print it. Students can work on their assignments either online or offline. They can continue to learn using pen and paper if they need or want to. It's good to continue having them to practice their handwriting skills.
