Educational Classroom Materials lost due to Hurricane Matthew!!!

My students need book bins and a leveled library, along with appropriate storage, and word-based activities (like sight-word materials and a word work activity station) to help them practice reading.

My Students

Hi everyone! I teach in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with challenges in and out of the classroom. Many are being raised in a single parent household or by a grandparent. A short two weeks ago, their lives were forever impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Matthew. Our school was flooded and many of their homes were too.

My students are energetic and excited about learning.

Many do not want to leave at the end of the school day. They are motivated to do their best. They are our future and I want to give them the best start I can.

My Project

The materials donated will help build a strong educational foundation for my students. Because they are so young, they need direct instruction and plenty of time for independent practice. The reading materials I choose will allow the students to interact with each other while recognizing sight words, building sentences and looking for spelling patterns in phonics work. This will allow me time to pull small groups of students so I can work with them on their independent reading levels.

The materials will make a difference in my students' learning by helping me provide high-quality instruction while meeting their own unique needs.
