Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I once had a professor in college say to us, "If you find a job you're passionate about, you'll never work a day in your life." That quote holds especially true with the population of students I work with. They genuinely make "work" a great experience every day. As a special education teacher, my students have IEP goals based on academics (and many with additional related services such as mental health, occupational therapy, etc.). It can be draining for them to be continuously pulled to do "extra math" or "extra writing" with me, for example, because they need more support than their same-age peers.
It is our job to ensure that we provide every possible support to ensure academic success for ALL STUDENTS, including the necessary tools to address the specific needs of our special education program.
This year, I will have over 40 students as a special education teacher on my caseload. These students are eager to learn and need a little boost to get there. With the correct support, we can provide a positive learning environment for all our students. With these notebooks, colorful pens and colored pencils, materials to create bulletin boards, and bookmarks to encourage reading at home, our students can explore new ways of meeting their IEP goals while expressing themselves in their own unique, creative ways. We also requested the bins/bags for each of the supplies to be stored so my students can maintain consistency in the classroom with where items are stored.
