For eight years, I was an Enrollment Secretary for Elementary Schools; a job that required a fine balance between the ability to organize and multitask. As I was sprinting from classroom to classroom fulfilling an array of duties for an array of teachers, I would tell myself, "Teachers are so messy! How do they find anything!"
Now here I am, 2 years into my own teaching career as a Learning Specialist, finding myself buried in my many necessary collections of teaching materials.
I look around at my own space, thinking back to my comments and tell myself, "How foolish was I?! I totally get it now!"
As a Learning Specialist, I work with both reading and mathematics for different grade levels. This work requires a multitude of manipulatives which include everything from dice for math, to sand trays for phonemic awareness. It also requires a never-ending supply of crayons, pencils, paper, glue, scissors and even those fun treasures students love to earn!
Each of the items listed in my cart, would provide me with an ample amount of storage in my limited classroom space. This storage will help with organization which will when we need to get a specific item out for a specific grade level for a specific content area without taking time away from the student learning. These items would be valued beyond explanation, and I will carry them with me over the course of what I hope, is a very long and successful career in Special Education.
