My students make up the majority of the diversity in our school corporation. I'm in the process of pioneering an EL (English Learners) program for our non-English speaking students. My students come from different parts of the world and have chosen Harrison county to call their home. Our goal is to provide the best program to support them in reaching their English language proficiency goals and to become viable citizens in our community.
My Project
Building an English Learner Program from the ground up takes a lot of materials and resources, especially when servicing multiple schools and ages. Not only do I want to build an effective program, but I want to make the students' learning engaging and authentic. The portable projector, projector screen, sound bar, document camera, external DVD players, and iPad stands will allow my assistant and me to present instructional videos and other visual presentations at the four schools we service. The sound canceling earbuds will allow me to focus on any virtual students that I am servicing while in the classroom. The magentic map will allow me to represent and teach all about the different countries my students are from. The games and other resources will provide an engaging learning environment for my students. The tool kit will assist with the hands on activities I provide for students as they learn to follow directions as they build different objects. The microwave will be used for annual celebration days when we celebrate the food and culture from the countries our students are from.
These materials will greatly enhance the instruction and experiences my English Learner students receive.
