Many of my students come from low-income homes. Children in poverty who see a way out work harder in school to make their dreams come true. Children faced with peer pressure to drink or do drugs will back away if they know it will affect their chances of pursuing those dreams. My students are responding in a positive way to a prevention and intervention method. They are learning that perseverance and a good heart will help them achieve their goals.
My students deserve to be reminded when they enter our school, how important they are; how special they are; and that their kindness and perseverance can make a difference!
I watch many of my students day in and day out struggle to get through the school day awake because they couldn't sleep the night before or sneak some food from their lunch trays to take home because they know they may not get dinner. Yet, they continue to want to do for others. They deserve my efforts. They deserve the best.

My Project
These snack options are fantastic for rewarding and motivating my students! A little snack goes a long way! Motivating students is one of the most difficult things to do, but with these snacks, it will be so much easier to motivate them as we ease them into self-motivation.
There are many opportunities to deliver these snack options to students such as incentives for giving their best effort on classroom and state assessments, demonstrating encouraging behaviors, special accomplishments like a student of the month, and students who just missed breakfast.
Students at this age still need a little help with motivation. Some cookies or candy may be just what they need to power through their state assessment with their best effort or a candy bar for showing leadership qualities in the classroom. Sometimes a sucker helps students work through tough problems together or a bag of chips may lead students to show kindness to their peers. Happy students and happy teachers equal a happy school environment.
