This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students really get into Edgar Allan Poe and Washington Irving. However, our school textbook only has one story from each author. Having a class set of these stories and authors would greatly increase their understanding, comprehension, and enjoyment of these famous American authors.

My students are "from the hood" as they say.

I teach 9th-12th grade English in regular day school, night school, and Saturday credit recovery classes. Many of my students have failed English classes before and I am their last chance, so to speak. I have gotten my students to enjoy Poe and Irving, but lack the resources at my school to continue this interest and level of study.

My Project

These books would reach two different grades- 9th and 11th. In both of these grades, these students will interact with Edgar Allan Poe and Washington Irving. These books would be used on a regular basis to supplement the textbook and our study of American literature. Having these books would be crucial to developing a love of reading amongst students who have a low grade level and are often told to give up.

These books would be an excellent resource for all of my English students.

As many have complained, our youth today don't read enough. With these books, my students will be able to develop their love for reading, as well as their understanding and comprehension of two of American literature's greats.
