Our close-knit, Title I school is located in a beautiful country setting. The students are energetic, curious, and work hard. The parents are positive and the community is a great resource of support.
The students come to school each day to learn so that they can be positive and helping participants in society.
The students work together to support one another both in the school and outside of the school day. Whenever a need arises in the community, our students are always there to lend a helping hand. Therefore, when we can help to pay it forward to the students, we jump at the opportunity.
My Project
The If/Then project that inspired me to write this project was "Budding Ecologist Need a Drone and Hydroponics System." Students are never to young to explore careers for their futures. In Kindergarten we do a unit on plants and living things. One collection resource we will use with the students is the video, "What is Special About Soil," with Yamina Pressler. This video will help students understand the importance of soil when growing plants and that soil is the basis of life as we know it. The other collection resource I will share with the students is, "How is The Environment Affecting Our Health" with Dr. Luz Claudio who is an environmental specialist. She will help students understand how things in their environment will affect their health. This video will help students understand the importance of trees and plants. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about ecologist and botanists and what they do. We are young for the use of a drone, but we are not too young to understand how plants grow, the different species of plants that grow and how they help our environment. This will be hands on and up close learning for our students. Growing a garden is a great STEM activity to develop nurturing skills, grow responsibility and confidence. Students will also be able to watch their garden grow. They will take what they have learned in the classroom and teach their families at home with a small kit to plant a flower with their parent.
