Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a remarkable group of students at a multicultural school in Miami. Most of them are newly arrived immigrants from Latin America with wildly different levels of English proficiency and educational backgrounds. With this such a varied group of students, it’s absolutely imperative to design innovative cross-disciplinary lessons that help them integrate new math knowledge with fun engaging topics that they enjoy. That’s where these waterproof, solar-powered, and camouflaged Bluetooth speakers come in!
Through the harmonious fusion of sound and nature, I aim to craft an immersive learning landscape where math comes alive.
By programming these speakers, students will sharpen their logical reasoning and deepen their understanding of algorithms and mathematical principles. Furthermore, the ability to experiment with sound outdoors offers opportunities for enriched scientific exploration, such as studying the effects of sound on plant growth or observing animal behaviors. As a culminating activity, our students will design outdoor sculptures that incorporate these speakers, applying their understanding of scale and proportion. Best of all, these speakers won’t just enhance students’ educational experiences. When not being used for instruction, the music from these speakers will add joy to students’ recess time, they will enrich community nights at the school, and they will welcome students to our school campus. They truly will make our school campus a more vibrant, enjoyable place for students to be.
