Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher at a very small, underprivileged school (less than 200 students - only 11 teachers) that is committed to incorporating the arts into our curriculum.
Our goal this year is to schedule a daily theatre arts block after lunch in which each teacher will be given 6 weeks to develop and perform a theatre production. We are working hard to make this happen. We are taking back the small stage that over the years became a storage area. Teachers at small schools do work extra because we do not receive the funding larger schools do to support arts instruction.
Our teachers will be collaborating to provide each student an opportunity to be involved in all aspects of putting on a play. This is a school wide plan that will benefit all students from first grade to fifth grade. Teachers will need resources to make this possible. We are asking for your help in acquiring appropriate grade level theatre scripts. I am asking for 3 Reader's Theatre Boxes (grades 1/2, grades 3/4, and grades 5/6). Each Readers Theater volume includes 15 ready-to-read scripts for class productions. I also need a book of Fractured Fairytale scripts for the second grade productions. I also need additional short scripts to practice reading to develop a sense of pacing, intonation, and expression. I need your help in purchasing additional Readers' Theatre scripts for each grade level. In each box, you get a total of 32 scripts (4 copies for each of 8 short plays). The scripts are designed for 4 readers at a time…and each copy has a different character’s lines highlighted.
Please help us provide all students with an opportunity to experience accomplishment. I believe they will advance artistically and cognitively. The experience of putting on a play can help to raise self-esteem. Your help in purchasing scripts is appreciated greatly.
