My Students

I teach a kindergarten and 1st grade multi-age classroom in an urban school district in Washington. Many students at our school come from low socio-economic backgrounds and need all of the resources they can get at school!

I am a second-year teacher needing some help to equip my classroom library with beginning chapter books for my developing readers who need the motivation of being able to read chapter books, but at a less advanced reading level.

Many of my students have begun to read chapter books, but there are some whom I see are feeling discouraged because those books are not at their "just right" level. Because of the advanced level of many chapter books, those students who need some encouragement need simpler chapter books to bridge the gap between picture books and chapter books.

My Project

In this project, I have requested for several early chapter book series sets for my readers who need the push from picture books to begin in chapter books. It has been difficult for me to see students who are struggling with the more wordy chapter books, but so longing to read a "chapter book." With these simpler chapter books that have fewer words and include pictures, they will be encouraged and motivated in their reading level and skill. I believe it will instill confidence in those students who want to become better readers.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about this project.

It is so important to build confidence as a reader from the earliest of grades. I know these early chapter book series sets will encourage my students and let them know that they, too, are amazing readers!
