This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students' daily lives were upended by the corona virus. Our school, a safe haven to many, was suddenly shut down with no date in sight of when we could be reunited.
Students have been forced to continue learning at home, alone!
They have persevered and are interested in succeeding but it is no doubt a challenge as many do not have enough experience with the self-management skills for a holistic remote learning experience.
My Project
These materials will help me as I teach from home because I can still teach math as if I was in the classroom on the board and have it visible on video. For more complex topics, students have still wanted to see me model, graph, or work out problems that they may have questions with. The whiteboard allows for that visual representation and maintains a classroom feel.
Students learn best when they can visualize their questions coming to laugh and for a topic like math, it can be hard to do so virtually!
The whiteboard and its corresponding materials will allow me to work out problems even while interacting live with students as if we were in school!
For some students, the switch to remote learning has been difficult as they have difficulty learning in isolation. I would like to provide a blended experience of both traditional and non-traditional learning.
The materials will still be just as useful once we are back in the school building because my classroom requires an additional surface for students to post solutions and show their work. We only have a board and little wall space as my classroom is a lab room. The additional whiteboard will allow students to work out classwork and homework problems and provide feedback to each other.
