My Students

Have you ever tried to see what is going on inside a student's head? It is very difficult and you need to gather as much evidence ans you can! Whiteboards are an excellent (and fun) way to explain ones thinking. 34 students and only two white boards don't work well. We need 4 more.

Our middle school has a large number of our students from low income families.

We serve a very diverse culture with a large Hispanic and Russian/Ukrainian population. Many of our students are in the AVID program and may the first in their family to attend college. We strive to make sure all our students will exit with the necessary skills to lead a happy and productive life.

My Project

Currently we have two whiteboards in our room that we use often for multiple projects: teaching, explaining, voting, convincing, educational games, writing, to name a few. The students love to use the boards (vs. just writing on paper) to explain their thinking. Having 4 more whiteboards will enable them to work together in small groups and give many more students the opportunity to become effective communicators and "convincers"!

I hear and I forget.

I see and I remember. I do and I understand. Four more whiteboard easels will allow groups of 4-6 students to work cooperatively together. This allows for so much more interaction and learning to take place than just "watching to teacher explain things", they all become teachers, as well as learners. It gives them a platform to "Do". The cooperative and communication skills they are learning cross all academic lines. We are building the future!
