Our students come from various different neighborhoods within our school district. They speak more than twenty-seven languages including English, Spanish, Bulgarian, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, and Arabic. Twenty percent of our students qualify for a free or reduced cost breakfast/lunch.
Our students are so diverse; with many students excelling in academics, athletics, and artistic endeavors as well as struggling with various disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
Our primary social focus is community building and character education.
Regardless of where our students come from, they deserve to be successful. Our school is their home and our tight knit community works closely together to see that all students have the chance, and the materials to learn and grow. Our students are amazing! They dream and think and question, always wondering about the world around them. They are the scientists, inventors, authors, artists, mathematicians and visionaries of tomorrow. By fostering an environment of collaboration, community, healthy competition, and risk taking, we are building a future that will make us proud.
My Project
This year we have been studying famous artists. My students have explored the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, George Seurat, Henri Matisse, and Claude Monet. We have created our art thus far flat on the table which is not the best position for painting.
My students would be able to achieve better results if they were able to paint while their canvas is upright.
This would be a more natural position and would be healthier for their wrists and hands. The other added benefit would be our ability to display the art once it is completed. Open House, our end of year celebration of our work, is fast approaching and right now, we have no way to display all of our amazing work. These would allow each student a space to display to their favorite creation.
Please consider funding this important project and helping my little artists bring their work to fruition.
