As a beginning teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide a creative and safe environment for my students.
My students are eager, energetic learners with big emotions!
They like to move, read and love lots and LOTS of positive attention. Many of my students are not able to experience a "typical" home life due to their situations. From the minute they walk in, I focus on their potential and providing an environment that allows them to learn more than just what the curriculum tells me to teach. Many of my students are still learning how to handle their big emotions, so we spend a lot of time learning coping strategies. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience in our classroom. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic growth.
My Project
Having a classroom easel will allow students to have access to a whiteboard throughout the day! Due to limited spacing, one of our whiteboards in the classroom serves as a word wall. The other whiteboard serves as a place to house our objectives, date and other important information. A rolling cart with storage will allow me to move the cart around the room during small groups and provide extra storage for small group materials within reach!
This rolling easel can turn our scholars into teachers, and help boost confidence with an interactive, multi-sensory experience!
Students love to do math with dry erase markers! Talk about engagement! Also, they love to manipulate magnetic letters! This easel will allow them more space to work with versus the small hand-held whiteboards that we have in the classroom.
