Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our third grade team has 8 classrooms, with about 18-21 students in each class. Many of these students come from low socioeconomic households with approximately 10% of which are our Families in Transition students (FIT). These students may live either in multi-family homes or hotels. Due to our school's Title I status, 100% of our students receive free breakfast as well as lunch at no cost. Anywhere from 10-15% of our classes comprise of English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students with approximately 1% of students considered Non-English Speakers. A large number of our students also are in our MTSS program where we provide added assistance in academics as they have shown through testing that they have gaps in their learning.
Our students may have challenges to overcome, but they are nothing but extraordinary.
My Project
A classroom easel will allow my students and I to create graphic organizers to display for a better understanding of our curriculum. This easel would allow the students to help create anchor charts on the whiteboard during our whole group time. I believe this would help us work collaboratively. The bright colored dry erase markers will also help keep the students engaged. We currently do not have a resource in our classroom to do this with, so I know my students will love the opportunity to be involved with the easel!
This easel project would allow my students to gain confidence by presenting their ideas to their peers, which will help us build a better classroom community!
