I work in an urban district in Pennsylvania and I teach first grade. I teach in a school that gives 100 % free meals to students. This means the area I teach in is a high poverty area.
While my children often need assistance with supplies for school; they deserve a rich learning environment.
I provide the best environment I can because my students are amazing.
My students crave learning and want to know everything that they can learn. First grade is vital to learning how to read and basic math concepts. We also learn about people and communities around the world ,as well as working together with each other.
My Project
An easel in my classroom will give my students the opportunity to see rich words in big books and in my modeled writing lessons. The books will fit onto the ledge and will allow all on my students to see vibrant illustrations and predictable text to assist them in learning to read words for themselves.
The easel will also provide the students with an opportunity for us to write a class story about what we've read.
The children love writing on the boards with markers so this will help me engage them in active writing. The markers in different colors will allow me to highlight specific words the children need to know. Writing on the board will motivate and excite them during a class lesson to write in their own journals. An easel would make a great addition to our rich learning environment.
