My Project
One of my goals has been to create more connections between ELA and science, and reading “I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906” by Lauren Tarshis would be a perfect way to do so! This book would compliment our science unit on earthquake engineering and would be a fun way to provide context to our unit.
“I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906” is a great book for 4th graders because it combines exciting storytelling with real history.
The main character, Leo, is a brave kid who faces danger during the earthquake, helping readers understand what it was like to live through such a big disaster, which connects wonderfully with our science unit of study. The book is easy to read, with short chapters and action that keeps readers interested. It also teaches important themes, like courage, friendship, and helping others during tough times, making it both fun and educational. It can lead to great class discussions and writing prompts!
