I have a wonderfully diverse group of 22 kindergarteners in my classroom. My class is comprised of students of Filipino, Latino, Chinese, and African backgrounds - which reflects the population of our school as a whole. Five students in my class are English Language Learners. Approximately 30% of our school participates in the free/reduced lunch program. Now, to really get to know my students, I need to dive into their collective personalities. At this age, every single one of them absolutely love school and can't get enough of learning. Each morning, they walk in with a jump in their step, knowing that it's going to be a good day. It's one of the best feelings knowing that I get to spend my day with a classroom full of kids who want to be there and want to learn. When I ask what their favorite part of the day was, I get some answers that you'd expect, "recess" or "lunch." However, just as often, I get answers like, "journals" or "doing my baskets [ELA]" or "math and doing numbers."
