My students are Latino, African-American, Asian and of European descent. Most all of our students come from low-income families and the majority are English-Language Learners (ELLs) from Spanish speaking countries. Our students are extremely diverse in their academic abilities, some with special needs.
We are very fortunate to have some of the most charismatic, enthusiastic and motivated students.
Our students love learning and being a part of their school. Many of our students love the arts and are very creative. Our arts program is a form of refuge for most our youth and helps to provide a positive outlet.
My students need art supplies to continue creating amazing artwork. This year we lost our art budget for supplies due to the many budget cuts city-wide. We need basics such as paper, markers, oil pastels, color pencils and paint brushes. Having these supplies will improve learning by allowing students to create quality work in art class. Without supplies, our students are limited with what they can do. We desperately need basic materials to continue our arts program. Many of our students come from low-income families and cannot afford to bring in their own materials. We need support to continue our program, our students need art as a creative outlet in school.
