My students range from kindergarten to 5th grade. My goal for all ages is to find their inner artist and create something they like and are proud of. The biggest challenge is my student's lack of independence and fear of making a mistake. "Creativity takes courage." Henri Matisse
My students come from a very low socio-economic status.
Many of my students are new to the country and English is not there first language. Our school offers a dual language program to cater to the needs of the surrounding community. Art is essential to the students for self expression and for creative release.
My Project
With 4 tablets available for my students, I will be able to create an art center just for integrating technology in the arts. In today's world, many of the careers in art are based around technology. I want to expose my students to this possibility so that as they enter middle school they can continue to pursue this type of art if interested. It will also encourage my students to be more independent. Rather than asking me how to draw various animals, characters, cars, etc. they can independently look up these images for inspiration and guidance. Through the many apps on the tablet, they can even practice sketching on the tablet without fear of messing up their paper and build up their confidence. Also, I will be able to incorporate much more art history through the various apps and programs made available.
Donations for this project would mean the world to my students and myself.
It will give the students an advantage in the art room and open them up to so many more opportunities in art than I can show them myself on a white board.
