This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege to teach fine arts at a Title I elementary school in San Antonio, Texas. My awesome students range from prekindergarten all the way to 5th grade. Every student in the school rotates through my fine arts class for an hour each week. In my class, the children learn all about art, music and drama. The children are always eager to learn a new art technique, sing a new song or create music with a variety of instruments. We also have an art club and a music club that performs at wide range of school and community events.

My Project

My job as a fine arts teacher is to inspire our students to be creative in art, music, dance, and drama. I do my best to give each child options to excel in. Each year my students learn how to play percussion, string, and wind instruments. Due to Covid we were not able to learn any wind instruments last year. I want to give these students a chance to learn wind instruments and get ahead before they transition to middle school.

Learning a new instrument can open a world of creativity.

Giving these students a chance to learn from each family of instruments creates more opportunities for success and staying in fine arts throughout middle and high school. I would like to teach them how to use these recorders so they can keep them to practice as they move on to the next grade level.
